from
then till now
In
1992 a group of enthousiastic gay singers united in Arnhem
(The Netherlands) and started the Arnhem Gay Men's Choir Het
Herenakkoord. The Dutch word "herenakkoord" means both "gentlemen's
agreement" and "gentlemen's chord". The choir was founded
to fulfill the need for gay men to sing together as gay men.
The pleasure in singing and the bond between members are important
motives to be in the choir. At the moment the membership is
22.

repertoire
The
repertoire of Het Herenakkoord is very varied. Sometimes the
songs have been musically (re)arranged and/or provided with
new lyrics. Lyrics telling the tale of the "gentlemen's love",
not seldom with a jest, are preferred. Most songs are sung
in four-parts-harmony.

performances
Performing
regularly is very important to us. High lights in our over
fifteen years' existence were the performances at the Various
Voices Festivals: 1995 in Groningen, 1997 in Munich, 2001
in Berlin and 2005 in Paris. During these Various Voices Festivals
European gay and lesbian choirs meet to enjoy each other's
art of singing. However, with just as much pleasure Herenakkoord
performs in smaller premises nearer to our home base.
